HIGHS AND LOWS

“Highs and lows” is an interview about creativity, inspiration and the urge to develop yourself.

A few weeks ago I met Dino for a spontaneous shooting in berlin wedding. Here we had a little conversation about our development as an artist and our ups and downs.

Hey Dino, let's start with an introduction. Who are you? Where are you from and what do you work as?

Hey Max, they call me Dino and I've been living in Berlin for about 7 years. I work as a tattoo artist in the studio “zum frischen Lutz” in Berlin Lichtenberg.

What were your first points of contact with tattoos, why did you start tattooing and what motivates you?

I had my first point of contact with tattoos relatively early. Around the age of 13 when I got my first tattoo. But it is now covered. And I saw real tattoos for the first time in the Time Traveling Tattoo Studio. I was incredibly fascinated by everything that was possible.

I started tattooing because I just love the process and wanted to share it with other people and friends. The only thing that motivates me is that I am allowed to work what I love every day and I can also share that with my customers.

You already have your own style. What inspired you to do this?

There’re so many things that inspires me. Books, work by other tattoo artists, the world itself or political topics. The style develops a little further every year anyway and that's why it remains exciting what you will draw or tattoo in 5-10 years.

We all know it: creative slack and the pressure and demands that you have on yourself. How do you deal with such phases and how does this process affect your creativity?

So I think the biggest pressure you get these days is from IG. You are comparing too much now. For my part, I try not to depend too much on the social network so that you don't drive yourself crazy.

Sometimes there is simply nothing to be done the right way. Although I often have to struggle with that too.

How do you deal with dissatisfaction in your work?

Dissatisfaction arises when you compare yourself too often or too much with other people. It is important to be critical of yourself, but you should also talk openly with friends or colleagues about how they see your work. Sometimes that helps a lot and if everyone talks about it openly, it's a win-win situation for both of them.

As a tattoo artist, you often have to do things with which you cannot identify yourself 100%. How is that for you and are you satisfied with your work afterwards?

So I try when someone comes to me with an idea that, in the best case, a common motive can be developed from it. Which has always worked out great so far. That's why I always give 100%, even if the motive is not super-convincing to me. I want both of them to have a great time and that's why I'm also satisfied with my work.

Where do you see yourself with your art in ten years?

Good question. I don't think that's easy to answer. We'll see how my art / work develops. I'm definitely looking forward to the time

All the best

Dino
